President

Jonathan Mogg

I became a runner in my mid 30s after multiple false starts. I was trying to run a mile a day but had a hard time remaining consistent. With a lifestyle change, I was able to invest some time into myself. With newfound resolve, I first celebrated running a mile non stop, then stretched it out to 5k. Big Party! Then 10ks, 18ks, and so on. Over the last few years things might have gotten a bit out of hand. Several road marathons and many trail ultra marathons later. I celebrate them all! I’m still searching for my crowning achievement. You never know your limits until you reach them. I’m happily still on the pursuit.

Vice President

Samantha Forbes

I signed up for a Trail Trot race a few years back and since then running has taken me places I never thought I would go. I have climbed mountains and tread many paths along the way. I joined the Sault Striders 4 years ago and came across a community that was welcoming and encouraging.

I have come to appreciate the beautiful trails and nature we have access to right here in our local town with a newfound sense of gratitude. I am always working towards new goals and have come to enjoy the discipline and sense of accomplishment it has brought to my life.

I’m grateful for my role as Vice President as I will get to work alongside some of the finest and most committed people in our local running scene.

Hi Striders! My name is Mallory Marinich. I got started running in my late 20s after admiring other runners for years. As a child with severe asthma running was not an activity for me. I’ve always been active in sports so I’m happy to be able to do it now.

I’m embracing the stroller running era with my two young ones hoping that they learn to incorporate running into their lives. I’m excited for my role as secretary for the Sault Striders and look forward to seeing everyone at our group runs!

Similar to many, I began running because I was beginning to gain excess weight and my health was suffering. My daughter and I decided to train for the Run The Great Lakes 5K and after that I was hooked!
Running to me has become so much more than just being healthy and stats. It is a great way to meet new people with shared goals and interests. To cheer and support one another. It is also very inclusive, bringing together people from all stages and walks of life.

Joining the Sault Striders executive team has given me an opportunity to help others find the joy in this beautiful sport.

I’ve been a runner all my life. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve thought, “Why walk someplace if you can run there instead?” In my 30’s I discovered ultrarunning and fell in love with the zen that follows the euphoric highs and soul-crushing lows of running a little too far. I love being a part of the Striders community because of the friendships I’ve formed and for the opportunity to share the love of running with new people.

For much of my adult life, I was like a lot of people. I’d hit the gym a few times a year, run for a few weeks when the spring weather came, but otherwise…not a whole lot. I always loved the outdoors and I enjoyed being active, but didn’t make my own fitness a priority. That changed the year I turned 40. I was determined to take back control of my health and fitness. I’ve remained committed to my own health and fitness journey since then. A few years ago I decided two things, I needed a bit of extra motivation, and I needed to surround myself with people that would encourage, help, and challenge me. So, in 2023 for motivation I signed up for a couple of 10k races. It turns out I got the bug. I realized that I loved running. Not long after that, I started coming out to some Sault Striders runs and the rest, as they say, is history.
