I became a runner in my mid 30s after multiple false starts. I was trying to run a mile a day but had a hard time remaining consistent. With a lifestyle change, I was able to invest some time into myself. With newfound resolve, I first celebrated running a mile non stop, then stretched it out to 5k. Big Party! Then 10ks, 18ks, and so on. Over the last few years things might have gotten a bit out of hand. Several road marathons and many trail ultra marathons later. I celebrate them all! I’m still searching for my crowning achievement. You never know your limits until you reach them. I’m happily still on the pursuit.

About 10 years ago I signed up for a race on a whim, and have been delighted at all the places running has taken me since. Having just recently moved to the Sault, I am grateful for the welcoming and friendly community I have found among the Striders.
When not running, I am most likely off on some other outdoor activity, playing the piano, or stuck on a crossword puzzle.

Hi Striders! My name is Mallory Marinich. I got started running in my late 20s after admiring other runners for years. As a child with severe asthma running was not an activity for me. I’ve always been active in sports so I’m happy to be able to do it now.
I’m embracing the stroller running era with my two young ones hoping that they learn to incorporate running into their lives. I’m excited for my role as secretary for the Sault Striders and look forward to seeing everyone at our group runs!

I did my first couch to 5K almost ten years ago, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I naively bought into the oft-cited claim that “all you need are a pair of running shoes” (just one?!) and joined a local running group that quickly became my friends, coaches, and inspiration. When I moved back to the Sault in 2022, I was thrilled to find a supportive running community in the Sault Striders. Running has brought so many positive things to my life, and I truly love seeing new runners find their stride.

I’ve been a runner all my life. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve thought, “Why walk someplace if you can run there instead?” In my 30’s I discovered ultrarunning and fell in love with the zen that follows the euphoric highs and soul-crushing lows of running a little too far. I love being a part of the Striders community because of the friendships I’ve formed and for the opportunity to share the love of running with new people.

My running journey started when my fiancé began his — after his heart attack, we both hit the pavement, and I quickly realized running was kind of magical. What started as support for him turned into something I absolutely love. I’m inspired by the amazing people I’ve met along the way and how running always pushes me to do more than I thought I could. I love how it takes me to new places, clears my head, and connects me with a community that feels like family. Outside of running, I’m a proud nerd who loves video games, books, and all things Harry Potter — my bucket-list race is a half marathon through the Hobbit movie set!
